Please review the 2008 RULES carefully:  

1. Students in Grades 1-12 are eligible to enter the competition.  Student entries will be grouped for judging as follows:  Grades 1-3, Grades 4-6, Grades 7-9, Grades 10-12.  Prizes to be awarded are:  Best in Show--$50.00, 1st Place (in each group)--$25.00, 2nd Place
(in each group)--$15.00, 3rd Place (in each group)--$10.00.  Certificates will be given for Honorable mentions, but carry no cash award. 

2. Each student artist may enter one or two pieces

3. An entry fee of $1.00 per piece must be paid when registering the piece. 

4.  The artwork must have been completed within the last year. (September 2006--August 2007) Work previously entered will not be accepted. 

5. No class project works will be accepted. Artwork must be original artwork--not copies such as Disney, TV, game or movie characters, etc. This is plagiarism and is illegal. NO EXCEPTIONS. (Judges have repeatedly stated they will not judge this type entry. This includes projects such as posters from book or science fairs, other contests, etc.  No artwork on poster board will be accepted.)  

6. Acrylic, oil, watercolor, pencil, pastels, pen & ink, collage, pottery, photography and sculpture are all acceptable media for entry. 

7. Artwork must be matted or mounted (attached to mat board or poster board) and should be, but does not have to covered with acetate or shrink wrapped. All entries should be unframed except for paintings on canvas, but absolutely no glass will be admitted. Sculpture and 3-dimensional art may also be entered.  Art work must have hangers attached.  If the piece is not ready to hang it cannot be accepted. Three-dimensional work that needs to be hung must also have a hanger attached. 

 

8.  DO NOT write your identification information on the front of the piece or its mat.  (Artists can sign and date the work discretely in the lower corner as usual.) Identification forms will be provided at the time of registration by the WP/CC Arts Council representative.  The representative will assist the student in attaching the form correctly to the artwork.  

9. All entries should be delivered to Bryan Public Library Wednesday, August 27, or Thursday, August 28, 2008, between the hours of 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm. NO art work will be accepted before Wednesday August 27 or after Thursday, August 28. Entries must be registered and accepted by the West Point--Clay County Arts Council Representative.  The Library Staff will not accept or register entries.

10. Students through the 8th grade must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Students in grades 9-12 do not have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, but it is recommended.  

11. Judging will be done by an out-of-town judge on Friday, August 31, 2007. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony Saturday, August 30, 2008, at l:00 pm at Bryan Public Library. It is recommended that each student artist be present (or a representative) to received prize checks (if applicable) and for publicity photos.

12. Winners not attending the awards ceremony will be notified and checks must be picked up from an Arts Council representative no later than Friday, September 8, 2008. All prize checks must be cashed by Friday, September 29, 2008, per request of the Prairie Arts Festival Committee.  

13. It is requested that each entry remain on display thru September 26, 2008, at the Bryan Public Library. Artworks can be picked up between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm Thursday, September 25, and Friday, September 26, 2008. 

14. The West Point--Clay County Arts Council reserves the right to reject any entry that is deemed inappropriate due to subject content.  
 

THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE ABOVE RULES.
